Courtship FAQs
How did we meet?
Ryan and I met, by the grace of God, through the help of friends and politics.
Ryan was a member of and ran as a candidate for a Christian federal political party, the Christian Heritage Party, for several years. In the summer of 2006, I also became a member of this political party and served on the local EDA board as a secretary.
When I returned to Tyndale University in the Fall of 2006 to begin my third year of studies in philosophy, one of my professors, Dr. Ron Weed, was teaching a course on political science. Though I was not in the course, I took the opportunity to discuss the policies and positions of the CHP with my professor. In the midst of one of these conversations, Dr. Ron Weed mentioned his friend, Ryan Kidd, and his involvement in the CHP, and suggested in passing that he should introduce us. His wife, Dr. Jennifer Weed, took the initiative to exchange our e-mail addresses.
Prior to this and in the mean time, Ryan had been told by the Dr.s Weed of certain of their students (including myself) who had been home schooled in the past and were becoming budding young philosophers. Other joint friends of ours, Steve and Kimberly Zink, had also been speaking to Ryan about me, suggesting a possible match. And all this was happening without my knowledge.
So it was, when I sent Ryan that first friendly e-mail introducing myself, I was under the impression that he was likely close in age to my professors, and was probably married and had a few children. Upon his response, I quickly discerned that my impression was false: Ryan was only eight and a half years older than me, and he was single!
After only two weeks of correspondence, Ryan expressed an interest in meeting me and possibly pursuing a courtship. I agreed, and we arranged that he would attend the morning service at my church on December 17, 2006, and spend the afternoon with my family and me.
Needless to say, we did meet on December 17, and found each other’s company delightful. For Boxing Day, my family and I traveled to Collingwood to meet and spend the day with Ryan’s family, and for New Year’s, he joined our family get-together in Brampton. On that day, January 1, 2007, my father spoke with Ryan concerning courtship, and granted his permission for Ryan to court his daughter. The rest is history…
